Use of industry “wastes” to improve soil health
We work with growers to turn locally available byproducts, like oyster shells, into practical soil amendments that improve soil structure, pH, and long-term fertility.
The Problem
Many growers face soil acidity, compaction, or nutrient imbalance. Conventional amendments can be expensive or inaccessible for small farms.
The Approach
Circular Agriculture Solutions partners with growers to test crushed oyster shells and other local byproducts as soil amendments. We run field trials, measure soil health indicators, and evaluate crop response.
What We’re Testing
- pH buffering capacity
- Soil structure improvements
- Nutrient availability
- Crop yield and vigor
- Cost-effectiveness compared to commercial amendments
Why It Matters
This project helps farmers reduce input costs, repurpose local waste streams, and improve soil health using materials already available in their communities.
Who We’re Working With
Growers in The Gambia, coastal producers, and urban agriculture partners.
Project Timeline
2024–2027, with ongoing expansion into new crops and regions.
